5 SUMMER ESSENTIALS

Whenever I am packing for a summer holiday, there are always 5 items at the top of my list: denim shorts, sandals, t-shirt, sunglasses and a magazine. These are my favourite beach essentials and I have my go-to brands for each of one which make them the perfect summer-time pieces.

Starting with the denim shorts, Levis. Possibly my favourite denim brand. So classic and something so appealing buying into their vintage history full of icons, with their denim branded with that tiny red tag. I bought this 501 pair in a market in London and I love the wash, the high waist and the 'mom' fit - everything I look for in a pair of jeans.

My favourite pair of sandals has to be a white pair of Birkenstocks with a double buckle, because comfort comes first. Yes, my feet are already quite big (UK size 8) and yes, by wearing a pair of Birks it makes them look about 10x bigger, but I love that look paired with denim and these are also a classic that never goes out of style year in year out. I will also pack lace up sandals, maybe a gladiator pair, but these are the trusty go-tos.

Striped. The best form of pattern, especially for the beach. Maybe it's that nautical feel that is so appealing but nothing sits back with a pair of Levis and Birks than a beautiful striped tee. This one is from Cos, simple, good quality and not at all pricey (£17.99 to be exact).

No brand does sunglasses quite like Celine. I have recently bought my second pair (which is photographed in this post) that are all black with a oversized cat-eye shape, simply because they are beautiful and make me feel like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. No further explanation needed!

Porter Magazine, especially their summer issues, are always filled with inspiring women, and for this reason it is my favourite. For example, this issue pictured below features Sienna Miller, Stella McCartney, Emily Weiss (founder of The Gloss and Glossier beauty range) and many more and it is always so motivating to see how these women have become so successful and their achievements. It is also filled with upcoming trends, fashion, inspiring photography and typography, beauty and holiday destinations. It takes me about a week to get through, reading different sections each day.
